Why are you taller in the morning?

One of the biggest factors for this phenomenon is the effect of gravity on the body as well as the fact that your spine is free from balancing and regulating your whole body all the time. When you lay down straight and sleep continuously between 6 and 8 hours, your spine will be relaxed from the constant pressure and the gravity that your body has to endure. Plus, the liquid within the vertebrae has more time to expand through the body. As a result, it all leads to a temporary increase in your height when you wake up.

Our spine includes 33 small bones combined, but only 24 top most of them are mobile. And in between these bones, there are a total of 23 discs. Since these discs contain water within themselves, when you are lying down on the side, your stomach, or your back, there is no squeezing on the discs either of regulating the body around or bearing the gravity. Between 6 to 8 hours of your sleep, this makes the discs absorb and swell up just like an inflatable water balloon, thereby allowing you to grow about 0.5 to 0.75 inches taller in the morning.

But during the day, these discs gradually lose some of their height because of compressive forces. That is why you will be back to being shorter at night.

What should you do to be taller in the morning?

Here, we have discussed the 4 effective things you should do in the morning to increase your height.

Stretching

If you stretch right after waking up, you are helping your muscles relax. Do you know that tense muscles are what result in poor posture? So, when keeping up with regular stretching, you are relieving and extending your muscles to make your back in better shape and promote your overall body posture. Also, stretching helps trigger the brain by increasing blood flow. As a result, you easily go on to function effectively during the day.

Try to stretch slowly and steadily because your muscles are just waking up. It is fine to do between 5 and 10 minutes to help your body be the best!

Drink water

A glass of water in the morning can get rid of all the toxins that accumulate in the body overnight. So, when you drink water, it naturally enhances movement in your bowels and also adjusts your morning spree to the bathroom.

Consume a healthy breakfast

A healthy breakfast is vital to maintaining proper growth and development of the body. It also gives you the energy you need to get things done and helps you concentrate at work or school. So, avoid skipping breakfast, or it might affect your overall growth.

One more important note is to care what you eat. Let’s find out some suggestions for those on the go.

  • High-fiber cereal with low-fat milk, soy milk, and fresh fruit.
  • High-fiber toast with a teaspoon of peanut butter.
  • Low-fat protein shake with fresh or frozen fruit.
  • A protein bar and a glass of milk or yogurt (if you do not have enough time for breakfast).

Consider taking vitamins and dietary supplements

Practice good posture

  • Sit up straight as well.
