Are You Forgetting These 5 Hygiene Habits?

Good hygiene is essential to your health. Things like sleep hygiene and personal hygiene seem like things that are common sense and difficult to forget, but we’re all human. Life gets complicated and we find that we are getting through the day just fine, but our hygiene may be suffering.

Something as simple as remembering these often forgotten hygiene habits can help you to build your immune system and put you on the path to good hygiene.

1. Wash Your Hands

You are constantly touching things all day long. You’re already washing your hands after going to the bathroom, before touching food, and when your hands get dirty, obviously. Everyone washes their hands, but are they really washing their hands frequently enough?

Washing (or sanitizing) your hands after opening a door at the store or before you eat can make a world of difference in your health. Handwashing can reduce your chance of getting a respiratory illness by up to 16%. The use of hand sanitizer in schools has improved student attendance by 19%.

2. Clean Under Your Fingernails

Your fingernails are a breeding ground for germs, especially if you aren’t washing your hands as often as you should be or your chew your nails. Cleaning all the dirt and gunk from under your fingernails will help to combat any illnesses transmitted by your hands. Keeping your nails clipped and clean can be the best thing that you do for your health and the health of others.

3. Sanitize Frequently Touched Stuff

You probably forget to sanitize the things that you touch all day, every day. The doorknobs in your home or your cell phone fester with germs that get transferred by your hands. These things can be cleaned with sanitary wipes that have a low-alcohol content, like caviwipes, which are great for cleaning non-porous surfaces.

4. Regulate Your Sleep Routine

Sleep hygiene is extremely important to your overall hygiene. Going to bed at a set time every night, avoiding working from bed, and creating a relaxing environment to work in is great and all… but how does this lead to better hygiene?

When you get enough rest, you will find that you have more energy to put into things like brushing your teeth and washing your hands. All of these things work together to help you develop better hygiene habits.

5. Clean Your Bed Sheets

Are you washing your bed sheets and pillowcases often enough? Are you washing them after you get sick?

Your bed could be a breeding ground for germs and dirt and gunk that you may track into your bed every night when you go to sleep. It’s possible that even if you are freshly showered when you climb into bed, you are still bringing something with you even if it’s just dry skin.

Hygiene Habits for Better Health

It might seem repetitive, but practicing good hygiene (and getting rid of bad hygiene habits) is honestly the best thing that you can do for your health.
