AOHi Magcube 30W: The Smallest 30W Charger That Charges More Than Just Your Phone.

AOHi Magcube is a 30W power delivery charger holding the title of the “smallest 30W charger”. Do you remember the in-box charger from Apple with a small 1-by-1-by-1-inch form factor? Magcube 30W is that small and compact. But, on the contrary, it delivers six times more power than the Apple 5W charger.

With the advent of GaN+ technology, chargers have reduced in size but increased in power delivery.  This new technology has enabled new chargers to have a watt density of 1W/cm3. AOHi Magcube has a watt density of 1.18W/cm3, making it much smaller than its competitor.

You might not have heard of AOHi as the company has just initiated its commercial selling of chargers, but you might have used one of their chargers. AOHi is a newly established brand of Aohai Technology, a company delivering chargers for a plethora of companies, including Google, Nokia, Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, Belkin, and ASUS, to name a few. Aohai Technologies has a 14.5% market share and has manufacturing bases in China, India, and Indonesia. Aohai is not a small company; take my words. Enough about the company background, let me talk about the performance.

1. Compact and Premium Design of AOHi Magcube

AOHi Magcube 30W is not your average charger whether you consider the overall size profile or finishing. As mentioned earlier, the charger is compact. The cube is only 1.1 by 1.1 by 1.3 inches, a size similar to that of the Apple 5W charger.

Size Comparison of Magcube 30W with its competitors

The charger is not only small, but it has a premium design. The charger has a beautiful front surface with a precision carved diamond vein design. The front is made using CNC-cut metal. The charger weighs only 40 grams or 1.4 ounces. But it looks and feels sturdy and firm. Overall, the build quality is top-notch.

AOHi Magcube 30W is only 40g in weight.

The Magcube 30W comes with two parallel flat pins plug (Plug type A). however, the pins are fixed.

2. Power Delivery in AOHi Magcube

First things first, the charger has 30W maximum power delivery using a USB-C port. AOHi Magcube 30W supports several devices, including iPhones from iPhone 8 onwards, Samsung Galaxy 8 onwards, Google Pixel, MacBook Air, and Nintendo Switch

AOHi Magcube supports following standards PD2.0, PD3.0, QC2.0, QC3.0, QC4.0+, PPS, Apple2.4, BC1.2. The Power Delivery output is at 5V-3A, 9V-2.22A, 9V-2.77A, 15V-2A, 20-1.5A. Magcube has the same chipset as used in the expensive charging devices from Apple.

Technicalities aside, I have been able to charge my iPhone 12 Pro, Google Pixel 5, and Nintendo Switch with it. In addition, I tried charging MacBook Pro, and to my surprise, I was able to charge it even though Apple recommends it charging it at 60W.

3. Charging Speeds of AOHi Magcube

Enough about charging standards and specifications; let me talk about real-life charging speeds. During my testing, the charger has been able to charge my various devices. So here is the detailed charging review.

iPhone 12:

The Magcube has been able to charge my iPhone 12 Pro at fast charging of around 20W. This charger has charged 50% in half an hour.

Google Pixel:

The Magcube 30W charged the Google Pixel 5 from zero to 90% within an hour.

Nintendo Switch:

The Magcube 30W has charged the Nintendo Switch from 0 to 56% within an hour.

MacBook Pro:

Charging a MacBook Pro using a 30W charger seems unnecessary and not practical. But I tried to charge my MacBook Pro using this charger for the instances, I forget to bring my charger to work, or I am going on a vacation and not feeling like carrying an extra charging brick. Although the recommended charging power is 60W for MacBook Pro, the charger has been able to charge at 30W. However, the charging was slow, only 30% in an hour. This charging speed is not good, but who does not like to have an extra option available.

Heating Issue:

The charger remained cold during the charging process. The heat dissipation is due to the fact that improved GaN+ technology produces a lot less heat, and cooling is done with a hefty amount of thermal pad paste. In addition, the front of the charger is made of metal and thus allows cooling due to better heat conduction. Overall, I found no heating issues, and the charger remained at average temperatures during my testing.

4. Indicators on AOHi Magcube

The charger supports PD3.0 and provides information about charging status. In addition, there is an LED light that indicates the speed of charging.

LED Indicator on AOHi Magcube 30W

An amber(yellow) breathing light indicates that the device is at fast charging protocol.

A solid blue light indicates that the phone is being charged at standard charging protocol.

A solid green light indicates the trickle charging status primarily for small devices such as wireless earphones or smartwatches.

5. Price of AOHi Magcube

The charger is valued at $29.59 for the brick only. Right now, you can buy this charger from the AOHi official store at $26.99 or head to Amazon to buy it with 30% off. Using the 30% coupon, you can get Magcube 30W for just $20.7. It is a bargain deal, and you will find no company offering such an impressive charger at this price point.
