Scandinavian interior design is quite in trend these days due to its neutral colors and natural elements. Inspired from the Nordic regions where you see cozy white cottages with pale and pastels color themes and beautiful artworks. The use of organic elements in the design like wood give it a warm and serene appeal.
However, all these specifications do not mean that this design is backward. In fact, it is the opposite of that. A Scandinavian design utilizes clean, light interiors with a minimalist touch which makes it an elegant and modern style. If you go by the rules of the book and choose light colors and elements for the interior, it could become too dull. The design would give the outlook of a little too clean space which could lack the comfort and coziness you expect from a home. The solution to this problem is discussed in the following portfolio that has been designed by Swiss Interior. There are many Scandinavian interior design ideas available at Swiss Interior, however in this article we will go through one in particular. In this portfolio, we will see how beautifully they have used a Scandinavian theme as the base style and then added some other comfort elements that help to bring back coziness in the interior.
Let’s start with the lounge. Here we see that the general color scheme is the classic Scandinavian colors with off-white walls, light gray sofa, and light oakwood carpentry. It also features a pair of wooden coffee tables which are in line with this Nordic theme. However, to add a twist in the design, they have created beautiful carpentry that creates a small designated space thay may be used for storage. On one side you can see shelves that showcase artwork and decor items. But the main attraction of this feature is the small glass compartment that has been illuminated with an LED light. This further accentuates the decor items inside it and helps add a unique and creative touch to the wood partition. These oakwood partitions are bordered by black frames that help to create balance in the design.
Let us now move towards the dining area which again has a signature wooden dining table with beautiful grains and color. To add a modern touch to this interior, the dining chairs are upholstered gray ones. Also notice that the oakwood doors are bordered in black color which helps bring depth and character to the interior which otherwise would have looked washed out. To add some color to the interior, colorful flowers are placed in a glass vase on which warm light shown from the hanging lamps creates the perfect touch of elegance and sophistication. A couple of wall hangings help to bring everything together in the design. You can choose decorative bathroom sinks.
Another important feature that we see in this interior is that they have added a pop of color in the form of fresh plants and flowers which also help to liven up the place. As we can see, the black TV and console are balanced by placing a green leafy plant next to them. Also a small leather stool in the shape of a bull adds just the right amount of creativity and warm aesthetics needed in this modern Scandinavian design.
Now let’s move on to the bedroom. Contrary to what we saw in the living room and dining area, the bedroom welcomes you with a splash of color and energy. The main accent wall of the room is painted in a deep cobalt blue shade which gives a comfortable and relaxing feel. Three paintings featuring the pantone colors of the year, yellow and gray, go perfectly well with the blue backdrop. The black closets also help to bring some depth in the room. The bed is light gray which creates the perfect contrast with the dark colored wall and closets. With all these darker elements, one might feel that the Scandinavian theme has not been used for the bedroom. But interestingly, to add that little touch of Scandinavian in the design, they have added a modern wooden bedside table. The floors are also of a light wood color which goes in line with the Scandinavian theme. The chandelier in the middle as well as the track lights add versatility in the design. The overall outlook of the bedroom? Simply mesmerizing!
The kitchen has been kept light and simple, which is the perfect way it should be. A kitchen with a light color theme makes it look crisp and clean which is the way a kitchen should look in any case. The lower cabinets have been kept a shade of gray whereas the overhead cabinets are kept plain and white. These two colors work very well together and create an elegant and modern environment. The backsplash of the kitchen counters are a cool aqua-green shade which again help to create a fresh yet soothing ambience.
