8 Ways to Save Money This Winter

Winter is now fast approaching and many people will be concerned about their finances this year as a result of the cost of living crisis. With this in mind, this post will look at a few of the best ways to save money this winter which should help.

1. Check Heating is Working Efficiently

You want your central heating system to be working as efficiently as possible during the winter months so that you are not wasting energy and spending more than you need to. Getting your boiler serviced will ensure that everything is working as it should be heading into the colder months.

2. Open a Savings Account

Now is a good time to open a savings account that can be used as an emergency fund in case you have any unexpected costs this winter. You can open a savings account and then deposit money here weekly or monthly and build interest on the amount over time.

3. Turn Down the Thermostat

Turning down the thermostat by even just a degree (or using it for an hour less a day) can really make a big difference over the course of a few months. It is vital that you stay warm and comfortable at home, but you also do not want to use the heating too much at a time when energy costs are so high.

4. Spend Less Time in the Shower

You can also make savings by reducing the amount of time that you spend in the shower. You could even look to shower every other day or use the shower in your gym to save money.

5. Shop Around for Savings

You will also want to be frugal when it comes to spending this winter and you should always shop around. You will be surprised at how much you can save simply by shopping around, buying cheaper brands and taking advantage of promotions and offers.

6. Get Winter Money Help

There is help available for many during the winter months, so you should take advantage of this if you are eligible. This includes a Cold Weather Payment for those on certain benefits and between £100 and £300 tax-free through the Winter Fuel Payment scheme for those born on or before 1954.

7. Bleed Your Radiators

You should also bleed your radiators to release trapped air, which will ensure that your radiators are working as efficiently as possible when running the central heating.

8. Look Out for Mould & Damp

Damp and mould can be issues that arise in winter and could cost money to fix. You can prevent mould by using extractor fans and window vents and leaving windows open just a crack if drying clothes inside.

These are a few of the best ways to save money this winter that should helpfully prove to be useful and help you to manage in the months ahead.
