8 Tips to Find a Nutritionist That’ll Help You Achieve Your Goals

71% of people living in the United States that are over 20 are considered to be overweight or obese. That harrowing trend is one that many doctors, political figures, and teachers have fought to get a handle on with minimal avail.

The reason for that failure, in many cases, is that beating health issues is about 20% education and 80% a person’s personal willpower. So, if you’ve mustered up enough willpower to get into the shape of your dreams, good on you! The next step is to discover how to find a nutritionist that can help move towards your goals.

No two nutritionists are the same. Some are great at what they do, others aren’t. Some specialize in muscle building while others focus on weight loss.

To help you narrow your many choices, keep reading to discover 8 tips that’ll lead you to locate the perfect nutritional partner!

1. Know Your Goals

While there are plenty of nutritionists that are jacks of all trades, look for a nutritionist that specializes in helping people with the health goals you’re looking to concur.

Before you can do that, however, you need to know what you want.

Do you want to lose weight? Are you trying to gain it? Maybe you’re trying to put on muscle?

Whatever the case may be, give priority to professionals that make a living working with people exactly like you.

2.Talk to Your Doctor

Armed with your goal, your next step to find a nutritionist should be to talk to a doctor.

Not everyone has a dedicated primary care physician. If you do though, they likely know an extensive network of nutritionists they’ve gone to school with or have worked with professionally.

It may even be that your doctor has a nutritional background that’s deep enough to aid you in your health quest.

It would also be helpful if you can adhere to a superfood list diet as well. While a healthy diet (and supplements) are necessary means of treating your body to an essential dose of energy, inculcating superfoods into your diet may turn out to be far more effective than you think.

Bottom line, doctors provide tremendous value when hunting down nutritional leads.

3.Chat With Friends and Family

It’s said that the best word of mouth recommendation you can get is one that comes from friends or family members. That’s because these are the people you can trust most in your life.

If you know somebody that has built muscle mass or has undergone an incredible weight loss journey, talk to them about it to see if they had professional help.

If they did, ask for an introduction and see if that same professional can help you.

4. Explore Review Boards

People that don’t have loved ones or doctors that can help them find a local nutritionist always have the option to explore review boards and find a nutritionist online. Websites like Yelp and Google are both excellent places to start.

As you assess potential nutritionists online, give weight to those that have 4 stars or higher, recent reviews, and at least 10 reviews overall.

5. Look Into Credentials

To be a nutritionist, you have to have gone to school and you have to be licensed. Any nutritionists that have neither of those qualifications are likely operating illegally and could give harmful advice.

To make sure the professional you’re working with is qualified, find out what school they went to, what they majored in, and if they hold a professional title like “Certified Clinical Nutritionist”, “Registered Dietitian”, etc.

6.Interview Prospects

No matter how qualified a nutritionist is, it may be that they’re not a great fit for you. Remember, your nutritionist is somebody that you’re going to be working closely with as you move towards achieving your fitness goals.

You’ll want to make sure you like them as people as much as you like their work.

The best way to get a feel for your nutritionist is to schedule a consultation with them. In that consultation, let them know your goals, take their pitch on how they’d help you achieve them, and notice how well you vibe.

If things flow well, dive in. If not, keep talking to other professionals.

7. Assess Trial Offers

Once you’ve narrowed your field of nutritionists down to one or two, it’s worth your time to look into trial offers. For example, some nutritionists offer a free initial session which can give you a taste of how they approach helping clients.

The more liberal nutritionists are with their trials, the more likely you’ll be to avoid paying for a service that doesn’t end up being a great fit for you.

Many excellent nutritionists do not offer complimentary trials. So, while trials should be claimed when available, lack of trials shouldn’t disqualify solid prospects.

8. Weigh Your Progress

It’s happened before that people begin working with nutritionists only to be disappointed by their progress. If you’re noticing that the time and money you’re putting into working with your professional isn’t netting you the results you want, talk to your nutritionist to see if they can pivot by starting your diet in a different direction. If that’s not working, fire them.

Life is too short to waste time working with professionals that can’t deliver on the promises they’re making.
