Most people are usually excited about the idea of Retirement. Finally, you will have your days to yourself. And you will not have to spend nearly all your time doing anything for anyone if you do not want to.

But then, when the period eventually arrives, many end up wondering precisely what to do with themselves. Is there really life after retirement?

Yes, there is. The truth is, you have more options now for how to spend your precious time than ever before.

You are under no obligations to settle for a single goal, pursuit or hobby. And life does not have to stop for you after retirement.

Therefore, if you are ready to enjoy life as a retired citizen, here are eight things you can do after you retire.

Table of Contents

  • Form a Mastermind Group
  • Take a Massage Therapy Course
  • Teaching
  • Work, But Only on Your Terms
  • Travel
  • Volunteer
  • Start a Business
  • Write
  • Conclusion

Form a Mastermind Group

Now that you do not have to commute to and from work every day, forming a mastermind group with other retirees could be exciting and fun.

Go through your address book to find other retired seniors. Mastermind groups meet from time to time to network, share advice, connections, and even experience.

Who knows, you may end up coming across a business idea that you can run with. And you can have or receive business advice for free in the group.

Take a Massage Therapy Course

If you want to learn something very new, you should consider taking a massage therapy course. There are several reasons why massage may be an excellent fit for you after retirement.

First of all, you will remain physically active. This will keep you mindful of your core strength. And you will always maintain good postures when working as a massage therapist.

Secondly, there is a profound satisfaction when you help to make people feel better. And finally, you will have an excellent opportunity to meet lots of people from all walks of life. What is more, many of these people will love to see you.

Teaching

If you have specialized knowledge or skill in a particular field, you should consider teaching. You can do this for free to pass on that knowledge to the younger generation on a mentoring basis.

Or you may charge for your services and start small classes. Skill-sharing is an excellent way of combining learning and teaching.

Teach someone something new and then learn something new in exchange. You can take your teaching classes offline or online.

Work, But Only on Your Terms

You can work, but only on your own terms, especially in a field where your experience is in demand. You can set just how much time you want to commit.

You may also work part-time. This enables you to connect with a new set of individuals while you make money.

Travel

Do you have a passion for travel? If you had saved money and made plans when you were still working, you can make your travel dreams come true.

Therefore, take that trip, travel abroad and soak in the culture of different places. Visit those places you have always dreamed of seeing.

If you are somewhat cash strapped, you can always rent a camper and travel for extended periods. Savour the experience and have fun.

Volunteer

Many retirees find volunteering an enriching endeavour. From assisting at the local hospital or library to mentor children, put in some time at an NGO (non governmental organization), or engage as an MC at community events. The opportunities to volunteer are limitless.

You need to consider what you love to do and the organizations you would want to help. After you make up your mind, get in touch with those outfits.

Let them know how you would love to help, and the people in charge will move things around to create room for you.

The likelihood of not accepting an extra pair of hands for free is pretty low, giving the recent cutbacks in the country these days.

Start a Business

Do you know you can start a business even as a retiree? If Colonel Harland David Sanders could pull it off at his age, he started the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise, why can’t you?

Therefore, look around your community. Many pet lovers who hold 9-to-5 jobs need someone capable to take care of their beloved pets.

Some individuals would love someone to watch their empty homes while they are at work, fix their computers, take them to the local airport, or clean the driveway.

Do you know your way around the city? Several tourist destinations will take you on as a tourist guide without a second thought. Once again, the opportunities are limitless.

Do something you like and does not stress your health. And make sure you seek advice from someone with sound business acumen.

Write

Writing a book does not require any educational requirement. And you can write about any topic you like.

Not inspired? Consider your life experience and use it as inspiration to write a ‘How-to’ book. If you have led a fascinating life as a politician, naval officer, etc., you have more than enough fodder for a highly compelling memoir.

And nothing stops you from writing non-fiction. You may end up writing bestsellers. If you prefer self-publishing, Amazon, the #1 eCommerce platform, has a section that caters to self-publishing.

You can write books, upload them, create book covers online, and so much more. This is the most cost-effective method for self-publishing your books.

But if you want to go the traditional publishing route, the road is a bit rougher. You will spend money on editing, publishing, etc. You can go with whatever rocks your boat.

Conclusion

There you have it: eight things you can do after retirement. You should not be asking yourself what to do after retirement. What you should be asking yourself is, ‘Do I have enough time to do all these pleasurable activities?
