7 Tips for Packing Light for a Road Trip

The worst part about road trips is packing for them. You have to take so much stuff.

If you’ve ever gone on a long-distance trip, you know the pain of trying to fit all your stuff into the trunk of your car. It’s never enough room! But no matter what kind of trip you’re planning, there are some ways to make sure you don’t overpack.

Here are 3 tips for packing light for a road trip:

  •   Plan ahead

If you’re traveling with kids, they’re probably going to bring along their toys and stuffed animals — and maybe even their favorite blanket or pillow, and in that case you should buy a roof rack bag in Australia. Think about what you’ll need before you start packing up clothes and toiletries. That way, when it comes time to load up the car, you can leave some space open for those extra items.

  •   Pack strategically

Think about what kinds of weather conditions might be in store for your destination — especially if it’s going to be hot or cold — and pack accordingly. For example, if it’s winter in Florida but summer in New England, it may not be necessary to pack shorts or sandals if they’ll never get used!

  •   Pack A Few Outfits at A Time

Rather than packing everything you own into one suitcase, pack several outfits at a time. That way, if you need something specific during the day, it will be easy to find and put on — instead of digging through piles of clothes looking for something that matches or is clean enough to wear.Think about where you’re going and how long it will take to get there before deciding what to bring with you on vacation! If there are multiple stops along the way (or if there are places in between where you’ll be staying overnight), then maybe it makes more sense to leave some stuff at home rather than trying to fit everything into one suitcase or backpack that won’t close easily anyway

  •   Use Ziploc Bags to Separate Clothes

For each day of your trip, pack a few outfits into separate plastic bags — one bag per outfit. Then, place each bag in its own compartment so they don’t get mixed up with other clothes while you’re traveling. This way, when you get dressed in the morning it’s easy to grab an outfit from a specific bag without having to dig through everything else first.

  •   Know what you need

Before you start packing, sit down and think about what you’ll need during your trip. Consider what weather conditions you might encounter, especially if it’s going to be cold or hot outside. Make sure you have enough clothes for each day of the trip, plus any rain gear or other items that may come in handy.

  •   Do laundry

If you’re planning on doing laundry while on your trip, pack an extra set of clothes so that when your laundry is done, you won’t have to worry about doing it again for a few more days. This will save space in your suitcase (and time) because you won’t have to pack so much stuff each time!

  •   Bring only one bag per person

You don’t want to be weighed down by too much stuff while traveling — especially if you’re driving long distances! Bring only one bag per person (or two if needed). This will save time by not having to lug around multiple suitcases.
