6 Ways to Get Your Child Ready to Go Back to School

Getting your child ready to go back to school can be quite the process. Helping them prepare as early as possible will make the transition easier in the long run. Here are 6 ways you can make sure your child is ready to go back to school in the fall.

Schedule Appointments

Schedule as many appointments for your child as you can before they have to go back to school. This way, it will be much easier to schedule them without having to work around school and extracurricular activities. Make sure to schedule a check-up with their pediatrician to get all the immunizations they need for the school year.

If you are looking for a pediatrician in your area, search ‘Fall River Pediatrics’ or add in your own location to get a list of pediatricians nearby. From here, you will have access to reviews and services to find the right pediatrician for your child. If your child is interested in going out for sports, you may also want to book a sports physical before school begins. Make sure to schedule these as early as possible since the appointments near the beginning of the school year may fill up.

Back to School Shopping

You might be waiting until right before school starts to go shopping because that is when the school will pass out a shopping list. However, there are some things you already know they will need that you can start shopping for earlier, such as pencils and notebooks. This way, you can avoid the crowds and get school supplies before some of it sells out. You can also use time earlier in the summer to clean out their closet to make room for new back to school clothes.

Fix Sleep Schedule

Throughout summer, your child’s sleep schedule usually becomes way different than what it is while they are in school. In the month before school starts back up, start enforcing a slightly earlier bedtime or a few early morning wake-up calls. You can get them to sleep earlier by encouraging a bedtime routine to help them wind down. This will make the transition easier for them when it’s time to go into school everyday.

Reconnect with Friends

With families going on vacations and being involved in different summer activities, it is easy to lose touch with classmates. In the time before school starts, reach out to these friends and schedule playdates. This will make it easier for your child to get back into the swing of seeing their friends everyday and it will be less intimidating for them to go back on the first day of school.

Complete Summer Homework

Now is the time to encourage your child to complete their summer homework that they may have been putting off. This will get them ready to do school work everyday again. If they were not given any summer homework, you can give them other activities to get ready, such as reading a book or completing a puzzle. Giving them these activities can help them be ready to use their brain again once school starts.

Enjoy Family Time

One of the most important things before going back to school is to get in as much family time as possible. School starting again will lead to everyone running around and will likely leave little time where everyone has free time. Spend these summer months enjoying each other’s company and plan as many family activities as possible. You will be glad you did once the school year starts.

Going back to school can be a hard transition after months spent at home. Spending your summer doing these things and preparing can make your child starting school again much easier for both of you. Having them prepared for the first day sets them up on the right path to have a great school year.
