6 Aspects to Consider When Car Roof Lining is Damaged from Inside

The roof lining is as important as any other part of a car, but most people don’t pay attention to it. The car roof lining is a fabric that covers the underside of its roof and improves interior decor and aesthetics. In most cases, it is of the same color as the upholstery of the car, but in new models, the upholstery also comes in different colors.

The roof lining gets damaged with time, and there are many possibilities for its occurrence. There are many ways to repair a damaged roof liner and many things to consider while repairing. Let us explore in this post six aspects to consider while repairing the damaged roof liner of a car.

The roof lining is sagging or damaged

Car owners need to check whether their roof lining is sagging or damaged. If the roof lining is sagging from small areas, you can repair it yourself by using several methods. However, if the roof lining is sagging from multiple areas or completely damaged, it needs replacement. The replacement of a roof liner should be done by a car roof lining professional.

Use glue to fix minor damages

If the roof liner is not much damaged and only sagging from the edges or corners, you can use upholstery glue to fix it. It is best to buy the upholstery Glue that comes in a spray bottle as it is easy to apply. Moreover, by using a spray blue, you can apply the glue more uniformly on the underside of the fabric.

Use double-sided tape

Although this is not a permanent fix, you can use it to fix your roof lining for a few days or even a month. It is possible to use double-sided tape only if the roof lining fabric is taken from the corners or edges.

Cut a few pieces of double-sided tape and paste them on the underside of the fabric. Then put the fabric back in its place and press it by the palms of your hand so that the double tape sticks to the board under it.

Sequin pins

Sequin pins are used for a variety of purposes, and you can use them to fix your car headliner. The advantage of using sequin pins is that you can use them to fix the headliner from any area of your car roof. Even if the fabric is sagging from the middle of the ceiling, you can use the sequin pins to fix it up. These pins are available at any stationery shop and are very simple to use. All you need to do is push the pins in the area from where the fabric is sagging. To make the pins look more attractive, you can also create a design by using a number of pins.

Combination of paint roller and steam cleaner

The glue on the underside of the headliner fabric hardens which time, and the fabric detaches itself from the board on which it is fixed. Steam cleaner is used for cleaning purposes in households and industries.

You can use a paint roller and steam cleaner to fix the headliner of your car. The hot steam of the steam cleaner melts the hardened glue under the fabric, and the paint roller is used to press the headliner firmly to fix it on the board.

The method is especially useful if the fabric is sagging from areas other than the corners and edges of your car ceiling. Fill the steam cleaner with water and turn it on so that the water heats up for a few minutes. Before using the steam cleaner, don’t forget to set the paint roller aside as you need to use both of them simultaneously.

Use the steam cleaner on the sagging areas of the headliner, and after a few seconds, press it with the paint roller so that the glue that binds spreads uniformly under the fabric and fix it to the board.

Replace the liner if damaged

In some cases, the fabric is too damaged to be repaired and needs replacement. If the fabric is damaged beyond repair, you should call a roof lining repair professional to replace the fabric. Replacement of a car roof liner is a complex process and involves opening all the accessories installed on the ceiling, removing the roof liner, and replacing it with a new fabric. Therefore, it should be done by a car roof lining professional.

Final Words

These were the six aspects that you should consider if your car roof lining needs repair. The methods like gluing, sequin pins, and double-sided tape can offer you a quick fix, and you need to consult a professional for a permanent solution. Now, as you understand the situation of your car, you can use a suitable method to fix the roof lining of your car.
