5 Ways You Can Save Money and Have a Great Phone Plan

Could you imagine life without your phone? Probably not, because we do so much with it, and most people have one. Besides the obvious factors such as making calls and texting someone, mobile phones allow you to surf the web, play games, shop via apps and do other things to make your life easier.

However, depending on your provider, the phone plan can be expensive. And as much as you love your device, you don’t want to pay that much each month. So we’ll outline a few tips to help you save money and enjoy a great phone plan.

1. Switch Your Provider

Most people with cell phones have attachments with big-name providers such as AT&T or T-Mobile. These companies have built cache with consumers, so most opt to get phones with them. Furthermore, they offer deals that seem like a good idea at the time.

But over time, you may notice hidden fees and a lack of customer service that makes your time with that provider unpleasant. So if you’re looking for cheap phone service, switch your provider. There are smaller services where you can get the same phones without hassle. Plus, more affordable services don’t lock you into a contract, meaning if you’re unhappy, you can leave anytime.

2. Pick the Right Data Plan

Data is another factor that most people can’t go without. Your data plan is your best friend when you’re not on Wi-Fi. It allows you to continue doing what you want, such as watching videos, playing games, or scrolling through social media. The problem with some data plans is how much more they add to your monthly phone bill.

A plan with unlimited data might add an extra $20 or $30 to your bill, which can make a massive difference over a year. Reevaluate your data usage if you’re looking to save money. Do you need an unlimited plan, or is it something you want?

If you don’t need much data, try cutting down and using it sparingly. Connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots, so you don’t have to use your data as much. Another tactic you can use is downloading your entertainment items while using Wi-Fi. When you know a long day is approaching, it’s easier to have your videos, music, and podcasts ready than to use up your data.

3. Change Phone Plans

As mentioned above, some phone plans might not be as wallet-friendly as they need to be. At the end of each month, your finances might take a hit. That doesn’t mean you need to stick with the same phone plan; ask your provider if you change it.

Most cell phone companies will allow you to change your phone plan for something cheaper. When it comes down to it, they would rather offer affordable phone service than lose a customer entirely. Speak with one of the agents and see what’s offered. After the conversation, you may get a better deal, lowering your overall costs.

4. Don’t Get the Insurance

Now, this may seem like a scary one but let’s explain. The provider will likely offer insurance whenever you get a new phone plan. Insuring your phone will significantly increase the cost because if it’s lost or damaged, that extra money covers it.

If you’re not the most responsible person, get the insurance; you’ll be grateful that you did. However, don’t get insurance if you’ve never had any issues with losing or damaging your phone. Instead, you can get a protective case to take care of the damage, and the money you would spend on the premium can get used for other things.

5. Look for Pre-Owned Devices

New devices are usually offered when looking for a new phone plan. You want to get it, but it’s not in the cards right now. So how can you still get a good plan without getting a new device? You can look for pre-owned devices.

There’s nothing wrong with having a device that was owned previously by someone else. Phone plans tend to be lower since it’s not fresh out of the box. There may be slight scratches here or there, but used devices typically come in excellent condition. If you go with this route, ensure to find one that’s been inspected by a professional service. You don’t want to spend money buying the wrong phone and plan.

Save Money On Your Phone Plan Today

Some may think saving money and having a great phone plan is impossible. That isn’t true at all; there are plenty of ways to do so. You can switch your provider to can better overall phone service. There’s also the option of cutting data and choosing a different phone plan. Figure out the best solution for you to start saving today.
