5 Tips on How to Maintain a Long-Distance Relationship during the Pandemic

The pandemic put a lot of long-distance couples through a difficult trial by keeping them apart for many months. For many others, it helped them find love through dating apps and online chat rooms. With restrictions still keeping couples from meeting each other, many are trying to find ways to rekindle their romance and make their relationship work until they can be in their person’s arms again.

While it is true that distance can create problems for many couples, it can also help them realize just how much they love each other. There are so many ways to spend time together and continue growing your relationship, even when you are apart. To help you achieve that, here are some of the best tips on maintaining a long-distance relationship through the pandemic.

  • Make time to video call often

While texting is amazing and helps connect people within a matter of seconds, video calling the person you love is equally if not more important. Being able to see their face, listen to their voice, and have a conversation with them will help you get some minutes of normalcy.

Also, it is not rare for silly fights to happen between you when texting. It is a much better idea to not continue them over text but to call each other instead. Talking about things can help you resolve problems in your relationship and work on them more positively.

  • Send each other gifts

If you are not able to be together for Valentine’s Day, important holidays, or their birthday, you can still celebrate together by sending each other gifts. This could be something they have wanted for a long time or even something more personal.

For example, you can make them a box that will include a shirt you slept in, some of their favorite snacks, and a handmade card. Even something as simple as this can put a smile on their face and help them feel like you’re there.

This is especially helpful for couples that met online through dating platforms such as the Taimi app and haven’t had the chance to properly meet yet in person. Having a personal item of your love can make the time pass by a lot faster and this can also help you get to know each other better.

  • Have a romantic dinner together

Just because you’re not able to go to a restaurant together doesn’t mean that you can’t have a romantic dinner together! Light some candles and play some soft music and of course, grab a glass of wine. You can video call one another, and order your favorite meals to enjoy in each other’s company.

This is such a fun activity and can help you feel like you’re dining out even though you’re staying at home. It is always a plus if you go the extra mile and dress up or put some makeup on. It will help you feel like you’re on a date and you are bound to enjoy receiving some compliments from your other half.

  • Watch movies and shows together

Everybody in our day and time has a subscription to an online streaming service and this is the perfect opportunity to use it. Similar to a dinner date, you can start up a video call and watch your favorite movies together. Yes, the internet might sometimes make you lose the connection, but watching your favorite movies and shows can teach you a lot about each other.

You can plan these dates during weekends when you can stay up later and binge-watch shows until the early hours of the morning. In general, this is an activity that can turn into fun movie date nights even when you are finally in each other’s arms.

  • Plan a future trip together

While it might be a few more months until you can travel to see each other, you can still make plans about a future trip. Pick a destination you both always wanted to visit. It can either be in each other’s state or country or a completely new place. What do you want to see at this place? Start looking for plane tickets, hotel rooms, and cozy local restaurants you must visit.

You can also go the extra mile and watch videos on the places you wish to visit. Since you will have the time to plan this trip, make sure you include everything you wish to see. This will make you both excited about it and it can be the perfect trip/date for when you’re able to see each other in person again.

Communication is the key to getting through this difficult time

Being apart from the person you love is difficult, but the pandemic is not going to last forever. When the time comes for you to meet again, it will feel as if the wait was worth it and you will have the time of your life. Whether you are meeting for the first time or you have been together for a longer time, you should make sure that you keep in touch all the time.

Communication is the most important thing that will help your relationship become stronger instead of falling apart. Make time for the person you love, send them loving messages and video call them often. The more effort you put into these months you spend apart, the stronger your relationship will become.
