Skincare is caring for one’s skin to keep it healthy and attractive. It includes many activities, from basic daily routines such as cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection to specialized treatments such as facials and chemical peels.

For a long time, skincare was considered a topic for women only, and men were often discouraged from engaging in any grooming beyond a simple shave. However, in today’s society, men have become more conscious of their appearance and skin and are using skincare products almost as frequently as women. Nonetheless, there are many myths about male skincare that persist in society.

Keeping track of what’s real and what’s a myth is challenging, but don’t worry. We’re here to debunk 5 of the most common skincare myths that men believe, so you can finally realize they’re false and stop believing them right away.

5 Things We Are Wrong About

Here are five things we are wrong about when it comes to men’s skincare:

1. Men’s Skincare Products Are Just a Marketing Stunt

This is far from the truth. Men’s skin differs from women’s, and they need specific products catering to their skin type and concerns. Men have thicker skin and produce more sebum than women, making them prone to oily skin and acne. Therefore, it is essential to use products designed to address these issues. Luckily the Growth hormone clinic for males has enough research and treatment methods to solve the problem without consequences.

Our skin produces less collagen as we age, leading to wrinkles and sagging. However, growth hormone treatment stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin.

In addition, it also increases the production of sebum, an oily substance that helps keep the skin moisturized. It can be particularly beneficial for individuals with dry skin.

Furthermore, GH treatment has been shown to improve skin thickness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

However, it’s important to note that we only recommend it for individuals with growth hormone deficiencies, and you should only use it under the guidance of a healthcare professional. GH treatment can have side effects; we don’t recommend it for cosmetic purposes.

2. Men Age Better than Women

Although the aging process may differ for each gender, it nonetheless happens. The skin on men’s faces is 25% thicker than on women’s. Men’s skin begins to thin as they age, and as a result, deep fine lines and wrinkles are more prevalent in men than in women, whose skin thickness is still constant at age 50. How you live, what you eat, and how you care for your skin are all important factors, but you should always wear sunscreen outside, even on cloudy days. Most of the time, men don’t like to wear sunscreen, a bad habit you must break to delay aging.

3. Washing the Face 5-7 Times a Day Will Improve Skin Quality

Overwashing your face can do more harm than good. Washing your face too often can strip the skin of natural oils, leading to dryness, irritation, and acne. Instead, it’s recommended by dermatologists all over the world to wash your face 2-3 times a day with a gentle cleanser and moisturize regularly. For normal and sensitive skin, wash your face once a day; for oily skin, wash twice.

4. Men and Women Are at Equal Risk of Getting Skin Cancer

This is a harmful misconception. Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men and is more prevalent in men than women. At age 50, men have a higher risk of developing melanoma than women. Sunlight, artificial UV rays, and certain weather conditions can all increase your risk of developing a skin disorder. Therefore, men should always take precautions, including wearing sunscreen when outside and getting regular skin cancer screenings. Green tea, carrots, and watermelons are healthy foods that help keep skin problems and cancer at bay.

5. Bar Soap Is the Best for Face Cleaning

The myth that bar soap is the best for face cleaning is a common one that has been around for decades. While bar soap is an effective cleanser for some parts of the body, it is not always the best choice for the delicate skin on the face.

Firstly, bar soaps are typically more alkaline, with a pH level of around 9-10, while the skin’s natural pH is slightly acidic at around 4.5-5.5. Using a soap that is too alkaline can strip away the skin’s natural oils, leaving it dry, tight, and prone to irritation.

Additionally, most bar soaps contain harsh detergents and fragrances that can further irritate and dry the skin. These ingredients can clog pores, leading to acne breakouts and other skin issues.

Instead of bar soap, you can opt for facial cleansers, specifically formulated for the face, which are typically more gentle and have a pH level closer to the skin’s natural acidity.

Conclusion

It is crucial to dispel these common myths about men’s skincare and recognize that skin care is not a gender-specific issue. Men, like women, should prioritize their skin health and invest in skincare products tailored to their specific requirements. So, don’t be afraid to delve into the skincare world and discover which products work best for you. Your skin will appreciate it.
