5 Jobs for Those Who Love Vehicles

Are cars your passion? Turning something you love into a career is usually a good choice, as it’s important to love what you do and you’ll never ‘work’ a day in your life. If you’d like to work with cars, here are some alternatives for what you might be interested in doing.

Long-Haul Truck Driver

If you like road trips and feel comfortable maneuvering and maintaining large vehicles, consider becoming a long-haul trucker. This is an industry with great job security, flexible work schedules, great benefits, and the opportunity to travel across countries or continents.  However, it’s important to remember that it’s not any regular job, and more of a lifestyle. You won’t be home for dinner every night, you’ll sleep in a lot of hotels, and face long hours on the road and constant challenges. If you don’t like the 9-5 life, though, you might not mind. Your best bet is reviewing an online guide to see if long-haul trucking is right for you.

Mechanic

This is maybe the most obvious one. If you’re a problem solver who doesn’t mind getting dirty, and if you like doing the nitty gritty work yourself and enjoy understanding the mechanics of how vehicles work, becoming a mechanic might be the right job for you. Training as a mechanic can lead to a lot of possible workplaces, including car dealerships and garages, or even starting your own business. It might also be a way into becoming a car technician.

Salesperson

If you’re not into the technological or mechanical aspects of cars, and if you’d rather go to work in a suit than overalls, becoming a car salesperson might be a better path for you. This will require some good sales and communication skills and a lot of knowledge about cars, but if you’re a smooth talker and maybe even a business major, you can work in a showroom or car dealership. It’s a rewarding career where you get to help people choose the right car for them and enjoy the satisfaction of completing a sale.

Car Restoring

Do you have a creative eye that you wish to incorporate into your job? Are you a fan of older cars? Restoring cars is often a hobby, but it can be a fun and rewarding job for someone with an eye for detail and a desire to learn. It does require experience as a mechanic or a technician and a lot of knowledge about old cars, but if this is the dream career for you, then you’re probably willing to go the extra mile.

Vehicle Inspector

You might love cars and have mechanical experience, but not wish to do the dirty work anymore. There’s a chance you’d love being a vehicle inspector instead. You’ll get to diagnose cars and decide whether they’re worth repairing or not, so it’s perfect for someone with great attention to detail, knowledge about car parts and a love of problem-solving. There are a lot of different locations you could work at and tons of vehicles you can work with, and there might be travelling involved as well.
