5 Different Types of Floor Bunding & Their Uses

How many times have you felt certain about yet another terrible spillage occurring because there is a huge water tank in your basement lying just like that? We’re sure – a hell lot of times. Well, that’s the pain of being an aquarist – you never know when the tank is going to blow up and flood your entire basement!

In fact, why just aquarists? Anyone who has an oil tank or a water container lying in their house or warehouse has to always keep a check on spillage because history has it – it always comes uninvited. But thanks to floor bunding, for they have made us free from this unnecessary fret of leakage of liquids ruining our floors.

For those unaware, floor bunding is a spill containment product usually found in industries. If chosen correctly, it can even provide spill-resistance of up to 110% of the maximum capacity of the largest tank!

But do you know which one is the best suited for your business? Nope? So, let us enlist the 5 different types of floor bunding and their uses to help you choose the correct one for your industry’s warehouse:

  1. Rubber Floor Bunding

First and the best – it’s the rubber floor bunding! If yours is a warehouse that is used to welcoming heavy-loaded trucks and vehicles, then this bunding variety is the best for you. Why? Well, as the name suggests, rubber floor bunding is extremely durable and the least prone to wear and tear. And obviously, since it is made of rubber, there is no doubt about the amazing spill-resistance that it provides.

Its Polyurethane build-up offers unparalleled resistance to most chemicals and fuels.  There is no fuss involved in the installment procedure too – it’s all easy-peasy. The cherry on the cake? It is easy to handle and maintain! What more to ask for?!

  1. Bunded Pallets

Looking for floor bunding? Well, here’s suggesting you another bomb one! Bunded pallets are by far the most popular variety of floor bunding in the market currently. And why not? They are equipped with all the best features after all.

Available in 2 or 4 drum configuration, bunded pallets offer spill containment via small, individual pallets. Easy to install and very effective in spill-resistance, the best advantage that this bunding provides is its smooth manageability.

When not in use, you can just stack these together and store them. So, if you want temporary bunding done, this is the best choice!

  1. Portable Bunding

Well, the name itself explains pretty much a lot about this particular bunding variety, isn’t it? Still, let us elucidate it a little.  Portable bunding, as the name suggests, is the most suited bunding type for temporary usage. Made of extremely heavy-duty PVC and reinforced fiberglass, it has a lot of pros.

It offers immense stability, which makes it the best option for any type of spillage that may occur while a vehicle is on the move. So, it’s apt for mining oil or gas applications. And not to forget, how easy to install it is! The only con? It may sometimes require a protective groundsheet.

  1. Flexible Floor Bunding

Arriving at number four on our list of bunding, it’s the flexible floor bunding. This floor bunding is very much capable of withstanding the heavy load of vehicles – thanks to its waterproof collapsible barrier. To top it, it also provides a really decent spill containment owing to its flexible structure and waterproof build-up.

However, the only con involved with this specific bunding is in its installment. This bunding is not as easy to install as the rest of the floor bunding.

  1. Temporary Bunding

Last but not least, there is this temporary bunding that is nothing short of an emergency rescue for spill containment. This bunding is made up of PVC and is mostly used for temporarily fixing leaking drums or other equipments.

The best part about this floor bunding is its low cost. Also, it’s pretty easy to install. But then again, this floor bunding is not high on spill containment capacity and just provides a short-term solution for spills and leakages.

So, if you are looking for a permanent solution for the spillage issues of your warehouse, this is probably not the best choice for you.
