Disinfecting your office is crucial if you want to keep you and your employees healthy and happy. However, if you are practicing these common disinfection mistakes, you may not be disinfecting your office properly. Any small mistake could cause illness to spread in your workplace!

What are some common disinfection mistakes that you need to avoid?

If you want to improve your office disinfecting routine, you’re in luck. Here are some of the common mistakes people make when disinfecting their workplaces.

1.Neglecting to Change Out Tools

Bacteria can cling to the surfaces of any cleaning tools you use. You should avoid using the same mops or rags on multiple surfaces without sanitizing them in between. Otherwise, you may be unknowingly transferring bacteria from one location to another.

Always give your tools a chance to be disinfected before moving on to new areas. That way, you can get a better clean. You should also get new tools when your current ones start showing signs of wear and tear.

2.Washing Away Disinfectant Immediately

If you want your disinfectant solution to have a chance to kill off bacteria, you can’t wash it away immediately after using it. Disinfectants need a chance to sit and kill off all of the bacteria sitting on the surface. Give any disinfectants between 10 to 15 minutes before wiping them away to kill as many germs as possible.

3.Using the Wrong Disinfectants

Specific types of disinfectants, like hydrogen peroxide foggers, are designed to work on different surfaces. Before you start your office disinfecting routine, make sure that the disinfectant solution you have is the right one. For example, you should never use a fabric disinfectant on your office countertop; always check your labels before cleaning!

4.Not Pre-Cleaning

Cleaning and disinfecting are not the same. Cleaning involves the removal of dirt or germs from the surface of an object while disinfecting involves using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. No matter how clean a surface seems, however, you should always practice cleaning before disinfecting to kill off the most germs possible.

Pre-cleaning the surfaces you plan to disinfect makes the job easier and primes the surfaces for disinfectants. Never skip the initial cleaning stage before jumping into disinfectants!

5.Missing Spots

High-touch areas sometimes get overlooked during the cleaning process. Door handles, faucet handles, and toilet flushers are just a few examples of surfaces that tend to get missed. Whenever you are disinfecting, take the time to make sure that you are tackling all areas in your office!

Avoid These Common Disinfection Mistakes

Now that you know these common disinfection mistakes, you’re ready to start making improvements to your disinfection routine! Remember, there’s no harm in disinfecting your office more than once to give it a thorough cleaning.

What does your office cleaning routine look like? Do you know someone who could use help disinfecting their home or office space?
