  • Common Causes of Lower Back Pain Explained

1. Strains and Sprains

Strains and sprains are some of the most common causes of lower back pain. They can result from a number of things ranging from lifting something too heavy to coughing or sneezing.

Strains are an injury to your muscles or tendons, while a sprain is a tearing of a ligament. Muscles and tendons supporting the spine can easily get stressed from twisting, pulling, or tearing them. Ligaments are bands of tissue connecting bones to your joints.

You could have a strain if you overuse your back muscles and do not tend to them properly. Sprains usually occur from a more tangible injury, such as a fall.

Ice and compression can be used to treat both. Stretching works well to help heal your muscles as well.

2. Spinal Injuries and Disorders

Spinal injuries and disorders have many different names. These can all range from the following:

  • Scoliosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Spondylitis
  • Spondylosis
  • Herniated Disc

Spinal injuries and disorders are usually permanent conditions. Visiting a physical therapy center regularly can help ease the daily discomfort experienced by someone with these types of conditions.

3. Inflammation

Inflammation throughout the body can wreak havoc on your lower back. Whether it’s from inflamed hip joints or your lower vertebrae, it results in back pain. Lower back pain treatment for inflammatory issues can be as simple as eating a low inflammatory diet.

Cutting out things such as refined sucrose and processed foods from your diet can play a huge role in how your body feels. Once you do this, you’ll notice a difference in the level of inflammation of your body.

4. Sedentary Lifestyle

Having a sedentary lifestyle leads to poor posture, a lack of mobility, and weaker muscles. Tight muscles from a lack of exercise and stretching can cause misalignments. Many feel soreness in their lower backs from this.

A lot of back pain can be traced back to poor posture too. Sitting down all the time and staring at a screen results in lower back pain. Leading a better, more active lifestyle can help reduce pain.

5. Arthritis

Arthritis naturally occurs over the years for many. It’s an inflammatory condition that leads to stiffness, soreness, and inflammation of the spine. For this type of back pain, frequent stretching and trips to a chiropractor or physical therapist are useful.

Common Causes of Lower Back Pain Explained

Seeing as there are many common causes of lower back pain, if you’re unsure of which category you fall under, you may want to get a diagnosis. Getting a diagnosis can lead you to many treatment options as well as pain management techniques to utilize at home.
