When you install your CCTV security camera system, there are some important things that you should consider. These can save you a lot of time and effort later on. First, decide where to run your wires from your cameras to the DVR. You can run them in a crawl space, attic, or soffit.

Don’t Overdo It

Whether you are installing security cameras for your home or business, you should follow several best practices to ensure the project is successful.

Positioning

During CCTV camera installation, it is important to consider where you want your cameras to be positioned. Make sure you cover all the main entryways, including front and back doors and first-floor windows, where crime is most likely to occur.

Angles

Angling your CCTV cameras properly helps capture a clearer, more accurate picture. Optimally, you should aim the cameras to avoid glare or obstructions.

Don’t Forget About the Power

The most important thing to remember when installing CCTV security cameras is that they’re designed to run on power. Without a reliable power source, your camera won’t be able to record, and you won’t be able to access it remotely. The best way to avoid this is by installing battery backups. This help keep the cameras running during a power outage.

A power box, available online and at hardware stores for $30-$50, lets you connect multiple cameras to one outlet. Be sure to choose a box that supports as many outlets as your cameras need.

Don’t Forget About the Wiring

In a traditional CCTV security system, video and power wires go to each camera. The video wire runs from a single point to the storage device, while the power wires run up the wall to the camera.

CCTV technicians often use a cable called “Siamese Cable” that combines coax and power cables in one. The coax transmits video, and the power wire supplies AC/DC power to each camera. Also, expert technicians recommend learning the basics to troubleshoot security camera systems and their cables.

There are many types of cables to choose from, each designed for a specific purpose. You can choose 500-foot spool boxes that pull the exact amount of cable needed or pre-made cables with all the fittings already attached.

Don’t Forget About the DVR

A DVR is a storage device that can record video from either an analog camera or a digital source. It can also be configured to replace footage that’s become old or full automatically. DVR systems are an excellent choice for small businesses that require simple on-premises surveillance and security. These solutions allow property managers and business owners at various facilities–retail stores, warehouses, construction sites, banks, offices, and residential buildings–to monitor personnel and assets, maintain on-site safety, ensure best practices, and safeguard their operations. DVRs offer a lower price point than NVRs and IP cameras while also offering superior picture quality and ease of installation. They’re also a more versatile option if you want to mix and match different types of cameras or brands.

Don’t Forget About the Cameras

Security cameras can provide a great deal of deterrence to criminals and help ensure your family’s safety. This is especially important if you live in a neighborhood where crime is common. Choosing the right location for your security camera is also a vital installation process. You want to be sure that you point them towards the entry points, such as the front door and windows, so they can monitor any intruders who try to enter your property. If someone burglarizes your house, you can use the footage recorded by your CCTV security system to report it to the police and file a criminal complaint. This will help the authorities identify the criminals and catch them as quickly as possible.
