4 Ways in Which You Might Be Reducing the Efficiency of Your Inverter Battery for Home

The performance of a home UPS inverter depends upon its inverter battery, and therefore, it is important to ensure a routine check up of the inverter battery. In fact, regular maintenance of an inverter battery not just helps ensure an optimal performance, but it also extends the life of the inverter battery.

But unfortunately, some people think that buying the best inverter battery for home is enough. There are people who do not take care of their inverter battery. Here are some of the mistakes they make which in turn reduces their battery’s performance.

1. Not checking the battery for rust and corrosion

Rust and corrosion can impact the performance of your battery to a large extent. Rust or corrosion in battery terminals reduces the flow of current which in turn slows down battery charging and ultimately results in the reduction of battery life. It is, therefore, important that you clean your battery on a regular basis to ensure that the battery terminals are free from rust and corrosion. To clean the battery, pour hot water + baking soda solution on the corroded area. Use a toothbrush to clean the battery. When done cleaning the battery, apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly on the battery terminals, nuts and bolts to avoid corrosion in future.

2. Ignoring proper ventilation of the inverter battery

If you don’t place your inverter battery in a well ventilated area, it can cause your battery to overheat during charging and operation. This will not just impact the efficiency of the battery but can also cause fire, and therefore, it is very important to ensure that you place the battery in a well ventilated area. This will also help you avoid frequent water top ups.

3. Not checking the wires

A damaged  wire will not just reduce the efficiency of your battery, but it can also result in a short circuit that can lead to fire. Therefore, whenever you perform a routine battery checkup, make sure the battery wires are not damaged. Check the wires for crimps, breaks or insulation melts, and just in case you find any, get the wire changed, immediately.

4. Ignoring regular water top-ups

It is important to check the battery’s water level every two months. Also, when topping up your inverter battery, make sure you use distilled water only. Avoid tap water or RO water as the impurities or minerals in the tap or RO water can reduce the efficiency of your battery. And that’s not all the impurities and minerals might even cause damage to the battery.

Just like any other device, inverter batteries too require regular maintenance. If you want optimal performance from your inverter battery, regular checks are a must. We recommend you perform a check up once every three months. Also, it’s best to buy a from a reputable brand like Luminous that offers a wide range of low maintenance inverter batteries.
